IT’S HAPPENING! TODAY. IS. THE. DAY.
HBO’s Game of Thrones is finally back, after what feels like an eternity of waiting, for its final season. Who will live? Who will die? Who will end up on the Iron Throne? It’s one big dramatic mystery and I am READY to spend the next six weeks fully immersed in George R.R. Martin’s beautifully cutthroat world of Westeros.
With that in mind, I’d like to introduce you to the newest Typewriter Moon project:
The Mid-Westeros Cooking Challenge!
Get it? Because I live in Kansas? The Midwest? And because they live in Westeros? … Okay, yes, that’s a really bad pun.
BUT I DON’T CARE! Because I’m super excited to announce that I’m doing a six week cooking challenge based on foods from the epic fantasy series we’ve all come to know and love. I’m going to try and replicate dishes our favorite characters are seen enjoying throughout the seasons. Think rich desserts from King’s Landing and the Red Keep, hearty entrees that could make a Northerner proud, and the occasional crusty baguette straight from Hot Pie’s well-floured hands. There will be ale, there will be wine, there will be laughs.
Starting today, April 14th, I’ll post a new recipe every Monday so you can follow along with my culinary tour of Westeros. I’ll include the recipe, any modifications I made, my results, and a final score (between zero and five ravens).
Week One: Lemon Cakes and Bread Bowls
Week Two: Creamy Chicken Pot Pie and Cream Puffs
Week Three: Garlic Roast Chicken w/ Lemon Parmesan Broccoli
Week Four: Dornish Dinner
Week Five: Savory Beef Stew, Potatoes, and Fruit Tart
Week Six: Pan-Fried Duck Breast w/ Roasted Vegetables and Poached Pears
I’d love to hear feedback, or if you decide to recreate any of the Westeros-inspired dishes for your own watch parties! Please use #MidWesterosCookingChallenge so I can see what you create!
And all my love, fellow nerds! xoxo
