To Westeros, With Love

HBO’s Game of Thrones is finally back, after what feels like an eternity of waiting, for its final season. Who will live? Who will die? Who will end up on the Iron Throne? It’s one big dramatic mystery and I am beyond excited to spend the next six weeks fully immersed in Westeros.

With that in mind, I’d like to introduce you to the next big Typewriter Moon project:

The Mid-Westeros Cooking Challenge!

Yes, that’s a really bad pun. And yes, I’m doing a six week cooking challenge based on foods from the epic fantasy series we’ve all come to know and love. I’m going to try and replicate dishes our favorite characters are seen enjoying throughout the seasons. Think rich desserts from King’s Landing and the Red Keep, hearty entrees that could make a Northerner proud, and the occasional crusty baguette. There will be ale, there will be wine, there will be laughs.

Starting today, April 14th, I’ll post a new recipe every Sunday at 7pm CST before the newest episode drops so you can follow along with my culinary tour of Westeros. I’ll include the recipe, any modifications I made, my results, and a final score (between zero and five ravens).

Week One: Lemon Cakes and Bread Bowls
Week Two: Creamy Chicken Pot Pie and Cream Puffs
Week Three: Roast Chicken w/ Lemon Parmesan Broccoli and Birthday Cake (Hello, 29!)
Week Four: Beef Stew w/ Baguettes and Fruit Tarts
Week Five: Shepherd’s Pie w/ Strawberry Walnut Salad
Week Six: Pan-Fried Duck Breast w/ Roasted Vegetables and Poached Pears
